A long-standing Portland couple was ready to make an oceanfront location outside of the city home base for family and friends.
Refocusing the dream.
Original plans to renovate a childhood home pivoted after discovering a dream spot on Cape Elizabeth’s Chimney Rock. Designs refocused on a ranch-style house with aspirations for easy connection and entertainment.
The positioning of the house itself was a challenge. A central kitchen and dining area lacked the flow and workability required to host guests and family. The unconventional layout required unconventional replanning and creative thinking. An oceanscape sweeping the back of the home naturally became center stage. A marble-top L-shaped island was repositioned to keep pathways open while allowing movement for those in the kitchen. Steel doors were installed to grant the separation of a butler’s pantry or to be opened as an extension of space.
