Spears Hill

A couple with a lifelong appreciation for design purchased property that hovers just above Casco Bay to build a legacy home.

The lasting legacy.

They had a vision for a modern structure made from local materials that would capture views at every opportunity. High expectations and high energy collided in a process that resulted in a space defined by style and privacy.

A portal to the great beyond.

With a larger footprint, it was essential not to preclude the water views with a singular structure. Instead, an ambiguous entry serves as a portal both to the home and to the captivating views beyond. Everything organized around this invitation to expansiveness. The home is comprised of three box-like structures—a lower level for cooking and gathering, an adjoining garage, and a top-level perched above for bedrooms. Walls of glass draw you from room to room, lit up by the changing light of the day. The many layers of space flow from one to the next, interspersed with mixed materials and landscaping that keeps the experience grounded.

As custom as it comes.

Inside the home is a continuation of custom craftsmanship. Everything including cabinets, staircases, and vanities were custom created with extensive production teams and thoughtfully considered materials. The traditionally humble staircase became an unexpected crown jewel with intricately intersecting aluminum and oak. Custom colors, tiles, and wall details add to the delightful unpredictability. A new sight, intersection, and invitation at every turn.
