Solar Barn

A Boston-based couple wanted to build a home that would serve as the foundation for a future family compound.

Foundation for the future.

They cared deeply about maintaining the property’s natural beauty and creating an energy-conscious design that could efficiently and stylistically stand the test of time. A contemporary take on a classic barn-style offered the flexibility to evolve the space within the well-insulated structure.

Stylish sustainability.

Comfort, efficiency, and sustainability dictated much of the design process. An energy plan by ReVison Energy eliminated the need for any oil or gas on-site and proper orientation of the home keeps all spaces comfortable. Locally-sourced materials including indigenous hemlock, ash flooring, wood ceiling, and wainscoting help accentuate the interior. Unfinished wood beams and local eastern white cedar board and batten siding maintain the simplistic but sturdy nature of the home.
