Noyes Street

A complete interior renovation of an old home, a quiet Portland neighborhood, and a growing family presented equal opportunities and challenges.

Old and new working together.

Priorities included maintaining the home’s original character while creating more functional space for expanding and changing needs. Opening up the first floor without compromising the structural integrity of the two floors above required patience and ingenuity. Existing bearing walls were removed and replaced with exposed and painted steel beams. This allowed for existing windows to flood the newly shaped space with natural light. The old and new working in unison to add lightness, function, and flow.

Materials that meet and greet.

New materials, textures, and tones meet and greet throughout the home to welcome you from one space to the next. An abundance of custom millwork adds distinction throughout key spaces. At the center of the home a custom oval island with curved shaker style doors works as a gathering space in an open-layout kitchen, which invites overflow from the connected living area. The result is a decidedly contemporary update to a historic home fitted functionally for a new family.
